We are developing a new joint strategy to set the vision, priorities, investments and activities of Ngāti Mākino Iwi Authority, Ngāti Mākino Heritage Trust, and Ngāti Mākino Assets Ltd, to support our Iwi to achieve its aspirations through to 2050.
Our strategy will guide our entities, future development, financial growth, and sustainability, as well as support the ongoing delivery of support and benefits for ngā uri now.
We want our 2050 strategy to reflect the thoughts, concerns and needs of all of our whānau, whether you are officially registered with us or not, and including those currently living in Te Arawa rohe and beyond.
To do this, we are undertaking a significant whānau survey kaupapa, called Kia Mākino E, so we can understand the things that matter most to you now and looking into the future.
Kia Mākino E is designed to understand the social, economic, environmental and cultural factors that you and your whānau are thinking about, so we can plan effectively for the future.
Kia Mākino E will guide the development of our strategy, and help decide the programmes, activities and investments we make, which is why it’s important we hear from you.
On average, it takes about 20 minutes to fill out the survey, however, you might want to give the pātai some thought, or have a kōrero with your whānau before you start.
We've provided some information below to give you an idea about the topics we're covering and the sorts of insights we want to hear from you about. You can also view a pdf of the survey pātai so you can read them, have a kōrero, do some research online if you need to, before getting into it.
There are seven sections in the survey, each covering a different topic.
Strategic Priorities
What do you think our collective priorities should be for the next 3 to 5 years (short-term) and 25 years (long-term).
Where do you think we should use our resources and how do you think our success as an iwi should be measured? There are a range of options to choose from, as well as space to offer your own whakaaro.
Heritage Trust Services & Social Investment
How do you feel about the services offered by Ngāti Mākino Heritage Trust, which do you use, and where do you think we should focus our investments?
We also want to know your thoughts about how we should use our pūtea to provide services, if you've found any barriers or have recommendations.
Te Reo Skills & Use
Do you use te reo in your everyday life? If so, who do you use it with, and where? We'd also like your thoughts about learning te reo and making te reo education more engaging and sustainable.
Assets Company & Economic Strategy
This section of Kia Mākino E asks how you think we should prioritise investments and returns, what our economic strategy should be based on, and how we should protect and grow our whenua.
Mana Whenua, Taonga & Environmental Priorities
This section looks at how we protect and restore our taonga, whenua, and wai for future generations.
Which taonga or sites should be our highest protection priorities and should cultural values and mauri influence decisions? We also want to know what you think about about iwi-led monitoring and the kaupapa you think we should prioritise.
Engagement, Governance & Communications
How would you like us to communicate with ngā uri o Mākino? What information and updates would you like to receive, and what you want to see in terms of iwi governance? What is the best way for us to stay in touch?
Profile Information
We want to know a bit more about our whānau - but we’re not asking for personal information. The survey is anonymous, so that you can answer comfortably. The only time we ask for your contact details is if you want to enter our prize draw.
