Kaumatua Grant
Purpose
The purpose of our Ngāti Mākino Kaumatua Grant is to support our Kaumatua.
Recognise and acknowledge the significant contribution made by Kuia and Koroua who uphold and maintain ahi kā, who uphold Ngāti Mākino mana, kawa and tikanga at our primary marae - Otamarākau.
Recognise and acknowledge the significant contribution made by Kuia and Koroua who are now aged or infirmed but who have upheld and maintained the ahi kā in their younger life at Otamarākau marae and who are unable to do so now.
Recognise and acknowledge the significant contribution made by Kuia and Koroua who uphold and maintain ahi kā at Otamarākau marae, in our wharekai or through marae facilities maintenance or grounds maintenance
Eligibility & Criteria
All applicants for Kaumatua grants must be registered Ngāti Mākino members
All applicants must of your own volition keep their details updated
All applicants must:
Meet all relevant specified criteria including; closing date, age requirement (65 years plus), verified bank account,
proof of identity.
Apply in the first instance and then will be rolled over automatically in the following years.
Occasionally the office will seek to confirm Kaumātua member details.
All Grants are at the discretion of the Trustees

All payments will be made to member bank accounts

Kaumatua Heating Grant
Purpose
The purpose of the Kaumatua Heating Application is to manaaki our Kaumatua / Kuia so their well-being is enhanced during te wa makariri.
Eligibility & Criteria
You are 65 years and over
You are a registered member with Ngāti Mākino Iwi Authority
You reside in the Waiariki region
If you have an electrical or gas heating system in your home, you can apply for a one off grant which will be equivalent to the cost of the firewood and including the subsidy as set out in Distribution 1 & 2. You must include a copy of your heating and or gas bill as evidence.
Distribution
Firewood is delivered to the home of the Kaumatua at no cost 2m3 of split firewood
At the discretion of the Board after the free load has been granted, a second application can be made for firewood where the kaumatua may receive a 50% discount off the 2m3 firewood costs.
Payment
Payment to be made directly to the predetermined wood supplier
For 50% discount load Kuia and Kaumatua will organise payment direct to supplier
For the electricity contribution payment will be made directly to the electricity provider.
